- Garmin apparently plans to drop new guided workouts for his Garmin Coach Service
- As per the leakage is swimming and walking the two disciplines that focus on
- Coach Swim is likely to have open water -focused classes, while Coach Walking is reportedly offering ‘natural exposure’ and stress management
According to leaks, new training that focuses on swimming and walking is added to some of the best Garmin watches.
Garmin -Coach Swim, which is referred to by the Leaking Square The5krunner, is apparently set to complete Garmin’s new triathlon coaching service and will focus on building good technique (using tools that bend to ‘refine form’ and focus on kicking efficiency), endurance and stamina, intensity, improvement and racial preparation.
Some classes are said to focus on opening open water, making them particularly useful for triathletes. Open water swimming is also becoming more and more popular with non-triathletes, as wild swimming participants use the activity as an opportunity to connect with nature. There is an option here for Garmin to earn wild swimmers who want to improve carefully, as well as the multi-discipline athletes who are Garmin’s typical target group.
Garmin -Trainer Walking, to which the second set of classes is referred, will reportedly offer a more holistic approach to fitness. While endurance and fitness classes are mentioned, which presumably offers a variety of interval style sessions and walking lengths, the leaks describe a greater emphasis on improvement and wellness, mindfulness and stress management.
‘Respiratory awareness’ and ‘natural exposure’ are listed as aspects of some of these hiking classes. Like open water swimming, it goes into nature (be it a local park or a scenic hike) participants to disconnect from screens and restore connection to the natural world with proven stress management benefits.
It is not yet known which watches support these classes or when they can be expected to land on the Garmin Connect app.
The benefits of ‘natural exposure’
A 2021 study from Harvard ‘found evidence of the relationship between natural exposure and improved cognitive function, brain activity, blood pressure, mental health, physical activity and sleep’ with positive relations between time spent in the natural world and both mental and physical health.
But you don’t need us to tell you that: advice on lowering blood pressure and increasing the mood by spending time in sunlight and near trees have been tied around for decades. Giving people the opportunity to take advantage of the green areas near those with guided training developments is a new way for Garmin to improve users’ health and mood.
These classes find their niches but will not be for everyone. Open water swimmer is not available to everyone, but triathletes and eager wild swimmers will certainly take advantage of dedicated Garmin coach classes. Walking training is much more accessible, but can be too soothing for eager runners and cyclists who probably prefer to access nature using their more intense chosen disciplines.
