- Dacora is the first female founded and LED automotive brand
- The debut model is designed with Pininfarina Group
- Swapback padding is only one of many unique features
Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Mercedes-Maybach … Soon you can add another, albeit far less recognizable, name of the list of the world’s most luxurious car manufacturers. The US Start-Up Dacora is here and wants a piece of the Ultrahøj-Net-Netlige Pie.
Founded in New York’s Hudson Valley by MIT-trained Engineers Kristie and Eric d’Ambrosio-Correll, the new brand is the first of its kind founded and led by a female CEO, as well as the first to have confidence to command $ 500,000 (about £ 370,000 / AU $ 770,000) year story to it.
The price point is set as such because Dacora claims that each vehicle is “carefully handmade” using American-sourced components and materials.
The 1930′-inspired design, produced in collaboration with Italy’s famous Pininfarina group, pays homage to the glamorous streamlines of Hollywood’s golden age.
Long caps, shaped screens and the possibility of specifying real metal and hardwoods on the exterior are just a few of the stylistic voice points.
Inside you will not find any ugly plastic or cheap scratched surfaces, as Dacora only turns to natural wood, leather and tissue wool for its interior.
In fact, the company says there will be twice annual ‘drops’ that allow customers to swap the interior fabrics completely with the changing seasons wool for the winter, linen for summer, for example.
The currently unnamed debut model will be available with anything from three to seven-seat configurations, with each seat including its own independent lighting and climate control.
Money no object
We are about offering practical purchase advice at Techradar, giving our readers expert tips and insights into how to choose the right gadgets. But every time so often we also like to celebrate some of the more ridiculous technologies on the market-the luxurious, advanced products that are simply fun to dream of buying. This is the kind of kit we cover in our ordinary money no object column that you can read more of here.
Dacora will take us back to a time when driving was a sensory experience, then ditched today’s screen-dominated cockpit, which trusts only one, non-touch screen to take care of infotainment tasks.
When not in use, this screen apparently disappears behind a semi -transparent wooden panel, while all controls are mechanical. Return the analog movement for two MIT-trained engineers.
As far as performance is concerned, Dacora should not yet provide accurate EV drivelet information, but says it is aiming for over 800 hp and a projected 400-mile ally electric range. There will also be the possibility of a hybrid driveline upon request.
Analysis: Keeping Up with Classic Competition
Co-founder and CEO Kristie d’Ambrosio-Correll was the former CTO of Mirror, a smart fitness product that turned out to be a popular lifestyle product with the very wealthy.
Based on this plan, Dacora opens its 100 goal Store Hudson Valley garage next year, complete with on-site production, design studio and rooms for guests to stay. Each car will be a tailor -made, personal commission with the brand’s designer available to guide them through the process.
Customers will also enjoy curated events, “immersive experiences” and all the other lovely things that rich people like to fill their free time with.
Dacora will have to seam this side of things because the early images of the vehicle reveal divisive styling and half a million US dollars buy a lot of Rolls-Royce, which remains the last word in the automotive industry and the ultimate show of wealth.
