Nick Castellanos was on an unknown territory below the first pitch of the Philadelphia Phillies game against Miami Marlins on Tuesday.

Phillie’s Outfielder was engaged in a heated exchange with Philadelphia Manager Rob Thomson under the team’s 5-2 win over Marlin’s Monday. Shortly before the start of the second game in the four-game series between the NL East Division rivals, Thomson told journalists that Castellanos would be detained from Tuesday’s starting lineup.

Thomson quoted an “inappropriate comment” Castellanos made, which seemed to make the manager sit Star Right Fielder in at least one game. That comment was made at a time after Castellanos was drawn from Monday’s competition.

“One of the many things about Nick that I love is that he is very emotional,” Thomson said. “He loves to play and he loves to play every game of every game. I just thought last night that he made an inappropriate comment after he came out and then today he won’t play. And I will leave it.”

Max Kepler moved from his post in Centerfield to handle the right field assignments for Castellanos. Meanwhile, Johan Rojas became the new midfielder of the game. Kepler started in the right field Tuesday in Miami.

Castellanos said he was less than happy to be pulled from Monday’s game.

“I wasn’t happy about it. Talking my mind,” Castellanos said, according to Philadelphia Inquirer. “He said I crossed a line. So my punishment is that I am not playing.”

He also acknowledged that the manager has the last word about who does and does not play in a particular game. “It’s his decision. He’s the manager,” Castellanos said, according to Athletic.

Castellanos broke a massive, five-year contract with Phillies in 2022. The 33-year-old outfielder has a .278 batting average and has hit seven homes in 72 games this season.

Before Tuesday, Castellanos had not missed a game since September 30, 2023.
