Mob attacks murder suspected in court

Rawalpindi:

A serious security breach took place at Rawalpindi law complex when a group of furious persons launched a violent attack on a murder suspect during police custody in the highest court hours on Saturday.

The suspect, Hammad – facing charges in a police’s killing case – was physically attacked by members of the complainant party despite being handcuffed.

The mob, allegedly 15 to 20 individuals strong, began to beat, kick and assault on the defendant in full display of law enforcement. In an attempt to protect the suspect, police quickly moved him into courtroom # 27 and locked the door. However, attackers pursued them, fiercely knocking on the courtroom’s door in an attempt to break in.

When chaos broke out, the president’s judge was forced to give up the ongoing hearing and seek refuge in his chambers. The locked door left lawyers and litigation trapped inside the courtroom for a significant period while uprising continued outside.

The attackers continued to interfere with the procedure, assaulted police staff and tried to force the courtroom by force. After breaking through the police checkpoints, they eventually fled the court complex. The incident just laid alarming gaps in the security arrangements for justice officers, judicial staff and prisoners within the complex.

Following a written request from the Investigation Officer, a formal case was registered at Civil Line’s police station under relevant penalties. Currently, no arrests have been made.

Sub -Inspector Qamar Sadiq, posted at Saddar Bairoon police station and awarded the investigation, said the defendant was brought to court to obtain physical custody. The Complaints Party, which was already present in the premises, launched a deliberate attack on the suspect.

He confirmed that he managed to secure the defendant inside a courtroom, but the mask tried to force their way in and attacked both the door and the officers present.

The disturbance led to a suspension of litigation while police officers and attackers collided outside the courtroom. The named individuals in FIR included Raja Manan, Raja Matloob, Ghufran and Raja Usman with other unidentified suspects.

All accused persons managed to flee after reviewing the police security barriers.
