VMS Group, a Hong Kong family office with just under $ 4 billion in assets under management (AUM), ventured into crypto for the first time, Bloomberg reported on Monday.
The company has earmarked up to $ 10 million for investment strategies driven by decentralized Finance (DEFI) Hedge Fund Re7 Capital, partner Elton Cheung told the news organization.
VMS is looking to diversify for more liquid investment, Cheung said. Its investment strategy has been largely focused on private equity during its two-year existence. Private capital has become less liquid because the investments choose to remain private for a long time, he added.
Cheung also cited clearer legislative treatment of digital assets in several jurisdictions as well as growing institutional demand as factors in entering crypto.
VMS did not respond to Coindesk’s request for further comment.
