Washington: President Donald Trump has rejected reports that Iran moved enriched uranium before the recent US air strikes said there was no sign that the material was moved.
The claims based on a classified report raised questions about how much damage the strikes have actually caused Iran’s nuclear program. But the White House has said that the uranium is still buried under rubble in the targeted places.
Trump, who was eager to take credit for ordering the strikes and then quickly announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, responded angrily to the media coverage of a classified report questioning the extent of damage to Iranian nuclear facilities.
One of the most important concerns that experts raised is whether Iran, who predicted the strike, moved about 400 kg (880 pounds) enriched uranium – which may now be hidden elsewhere in the country.
“I can tell you, the United States had no indication that the crazy uranium was moved before the strikes, which I also saw falsely reported,” said press secretary Karoline Leavitt in the White House in an interview with Fox News.
“As for what’s on earth right now, it’s buried during miles and miles of rubble due to success with these strikes on Saturday night,” she added.
