Two sniffer dogs from Khyber -Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police, which are credited to avert dozens of terrorist diagrams, have officially withdrawn after serving for a decade.

The dogs were part of the special bombing and safety unit that operated across Peshawar and the tribal districts.

These British-bred sniffer dogs played a critical role in bombing operations and provided security preparations for high-profile officials, including prime minister, chief minister and governor.

They also helped to clear routes and detect dozens of suspicious items during various security operations.

According to Adil Abdal, director of KP’s K9 unit, the dogs worked closely with police, the terrorist department (CTD) and other law enforcement authorities under several search and strike tasks.

Their efforts neutralized two major improvised explosion devices (IEDs) and helped keep key routes safe against potential threats.

Due to the age, the dogs were retired but remain valued assets for the KP police. After retirement, they have attracted considerable interest from individuals who are willing to adopt them.

A senior Peshawar police officer highlighted the dog’s key role during sensitive periods such as Muharram and VIP visits and noticed their ability to detect threats well in advance, thereby improving security measures.
