- Nintendo recently opened a study that asked the players about their opinion on digital and physical games but it is now closed
- A question asked about physical games with a digital download, and have fans who wonder if Nintendo will make changes to its divisive game throwing cards
- There were also questions about physical games and whether players prefer to own physical or digital games
Nintendo briefly opened a study that asked the players about their opinion on digital and physical games, suggesting that the company is looking for feedback after the launch of Switch 2 and its divisive game key card.
As reported by Eurogamer, August 4, Nintendo ran a study to find out what its player base thinks of physical and digital games, with questions aimed at how many switch games they bought for themselves and others.
A question asked users, “Generally when it comes to games for a Nintendo Switch system, do you prefer to buy games in physical format or in digital format?”
Another asked, “For which of the following reasons would you consider buying physical versions of the Nintendo Switch game?” With an opportunity to answer with answers like “I like to gather physical games”, “It’s easier to gift physical games to others” and “Physical games give a stronger sense of ownership.”
For some reason, the study has now been disabled, but another question that asks about physical games with a digital download has fans online wondering if Nintendo will consider making changes to his game throw cards.
“Filled in Nintendo Online Survey & was very firm by telling them that I very much love my physical media and don’t want them to go away,” said a bluesky user. “I’m not a massive fan of the new keycard approach. Let’s hope Nintendo actually takes this feedback to the heart and people show up for physical media.”
Game-Key card is a new form of physical Switch 2 games that contains a download key but do not have the full waste data like other physical versions.
After the player has downloaded the game, they can play it by inserting the game throw cards into their console and starting it as a standard physical game.
Some games offering these game throwing cards include Persona 3 ReloadAt Bravely standardand more while new titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey King Bananza are standard physical game cards like the original switch.
However, the new cards have become a divisive topic where many fans worry that the company may be moving towards a full digital output. Others suggest that since gaming throwing cards do not contain the full waste data, players do not have full ownership of their games after purchase.
In April, the Nintendo of America Senior Vice President of Product Development and Publishing Nate Bihldorff said game throwing cards are “future -proof” and that they allow for more games on Switch 2, regardless of the size.
