- Unidentified hackers broke into Bouygues Telecom systems
- Hackers stole names, contract data and more
- Bouygues Telecom calls for victims to be wary of incoming E -emails
French Telco Giatn Bouygues Telecom has confirmed the suffering of a cyberattack in which the lost sensitive customer data.
In a brief message published on its website, the company said it discovered the attack on August 4, and after an investigation, the threat of actors folks contact information, contract data, civil status data (or business information) and IBAN numbers.
We do not know exactly when the penetration happened, who did it if it was a ransomware attack or not, or how many people were affected – but in accordance with official company data, Bouygues Telecom has 26.8 million subscribers.
Phishing potential
Teleco began notifying the persons affected via SMS, removed attackers and allegedly implemented additional protective measures to prevent further intrusion.
“We have blocked the malicious access, increased monitoring of our systems and implemented further necessary security measures,” the company said.
Bank card numbers and Bouygues Telecom account passwords were not affected.
Although there is still no evidence that the information stolen in the attack is abused in nature, the nature of the archive gives it plenty of potential.
Cyber criminals can use it to design compelling phishing -e emails, mimic the business and force the victims into action by threatening to end their account.
Knowing information such as contract data and IBAN numbers could convince the victims that they are talking to legitimate representatives of the organization.
In a short FAQ, Bouygues said it “highly recommends” users remain vigilant and never share their login credentials or passwords.
“Be particularly careful about calls from fake bank advisers who may be trying to get your confidence by mentioning your name or account number. If in doubt, hang on and call your bank or advise back on their usual number.”
Finally, the company emphasized that the IBAN number alone is not enough to initiate financial transactions, but users still need to monitor their accounts closely.
