We’re already seeing some drop in outage reports – could this be over before it really starts?
Interestingly, Cloudflare had previously written that it was planning “scheduled maintenance” on some of its servers – could this have caused the problem?
“Traffic may be rerouted from this location and therefore there is the possibility of a slight increase in latency during this maintenance window for end users in the affected region. For PNI/CNI customers connecting to us at this location, please ensure that you expect this traffic to fail elsewhere during this maintenance window as network interfaces in this data center may become temporarily unavailable.”
If you’re not familiar with the company, Cloudflare offers a wide range of online infrastructure that backs up some of the world’s largest websites.
Cloudflare has confirmed the issue by posting at 11.48 GMT;
Firstly – the problem seems to have hit a number of major sites, including X, formerly known as Twitter, movie review site Letterboxd – and even crash tracking site DownDetector, which makes tracking the problem rather difficult for us…
