Lahore:
A passenger was killed and 24 others wounded when Awami Express met an accident at Lodhran Junction due to brake failure.
The train was on its way to Karachi from Peshawar; But when it reached the Lodhran intersection between the night to Saturday and Sunday, the train’s engine derived and five coaches overturned.
The deceased was identified as Waqa’s son of Allah Ditta from Khushab. Among the wounded are women, children and adolescents.
The wounded were moved to the New District Hospital. District administration, rescue resources, police and others were engaged in relief activities.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Lubni Nazir visited the District Hospital and issued instructions to immediately provide the best medical facilities to patients. The district administrations also created a relief near the railway station.
Railway minister Hanif Abbasi has also ordered a study of the incident and expressed grief over the death of the deceased passenger. He said that anyone found guilty of negligence will be taken into account.
DS Railways said the accident claimed a passenger’s life and made 24 others wounded. He said the passengers were accommodated in the Rehman Baba train to drop them at their destinations.
