- A new one Wolfenstein the game is reportedly in development at MachineGames
- Multiple sources, including Windows Central and Kotaku, have said the same
- Concrete details have not yet been revealed
It appears that a brand new entry in the Wolfenstein series may be in development at MachineGames.
The rumor was originally mentioned by Windows Central, and has been confirmed by Kotaku – the latter confirming “it is true from our own sources.” Of course, take this with a grain of salt as it is nothing official about a potential Wolfenstein 3 has been brought to light. However, it could be another much needed feather in the cap of Xbox Game Studios.
It probably won’t be released in the near future either. Swedish developer MachineGames is still relatively fresh on 2024’s excellent Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. A PS5 port, which was released last year, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version are set to arrive sometime in 2026.
The Wolfenstein franchise has been on hold since 2019, a year in which the co-op shooter was released Wolfenstein: Youngblood and VR spin-offWolfenstein: Cyberpilot.
It certainly feels like we’re overdue for a new one Wolfenstein game at this time. And hey, subjecting Nazis to increasingly humiliating deaths is an evergreen concept.
MachineGames’ Wolfenstein games are best known for their visceral gunplay as well as their excellent writing. As one Kotaku commenter correctly says, “there’s a righteous anger to the story that feels earned and passionate.”
Nazis are brutal, terrifying fascists, but MachineGames is also a good hand at accurately portraying them as sneaky children when things don’t go their way. As a result, it’s infinitely satisfying to see one-man army BJ Blazkowicz give them a well-deserved lift.
