- Compact and powerful, Planck SSD offers 1,050 MB/s transfer speeds
- USB-C HUB enables the use of double SSD and external monitor support
- Direct to SSD recording eliminates fallen frames in 4K ProRe’s recordings
Shiftcam has announced Planck SSD, a mini external storage solution for business-mounted and business-carable computers that connect via USB-C and offers up to 2 TB of storage.
Planck SSD is operated by NVME technology, which enables reading and writing speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and a transfer rate of up to 10 Gbps. For example, this level of performance supports directly for SSD recording to Apple’s 4K ProRes video at 60 or 120 images per second without fallen frames.
Given such videos of 120 FPS consumer about 264 GB in only ten minutes of recordings, this external storage solution is important for those working with high -resolution content in video editing software.
Durable and reliable to any environment
The name “Planck” is inspired by the scientific expression associated with incredibly small quantities in physics; SSD’s minimal form factor should mean that it can also accommodate a gimbal used for stabilized video records.
Despite its compact size, the company claims that Planck SSD will have IP65 dust/water resistance and be a drop-proof up to three meters, making it ideal for outdoor shots.
It also supports a USB-C hub that allows you to use two Planck-SSDs simultaneously. This hub also includes an HDMI port that allows users to connect an external screen to direct media playback.
Per Shiftcam is expected to be the proposed retail prices for Planck to be $ 129 for 1 TB and $ 199 for 2 TB, with launch expected in the spring of 2025.
Shiftcam’s CEO Benson Chiu said in a press release, “[its] Mission with Planck is to eliminate barriers to traditional storage and strength creators to focus on their craft. We have designed a tool that is so portable and powerful, it becomes an invisible, yet essential part of any creation work. “
