- Audio-Kun video playback is on the way to Android Automotive
- The update should eventually reach Android Auto
- Google previously promised video apps for Android Auto
If you are an Android Auto user like me, you know that there is currently no support for video playback. However, video apps are now on the way to the software with a useful fine tuning at the times when your vehicle is on the move.
As discovered by 9to5Google, there is a new clip uploaded by Google to the Android Developer Account: It shows Android Automotive interface that switches to a only audio mode for videos while driving.
Android Automotive is the version of Android Auto that car manufacturers can build in their vehicles, no Android phone is required. This platform already supports video apps, but only when the car is parked.
Eventually, these same features should come to Android Auto on phones. Last week we got the news that video players “coming soon” to Android Auto, so let’s hope that audio-only playback is not too far behind.

Look at
I can understand why it has taken a while for video apps to come to Android Auto because there is the danger of distracting drivers – and with the software running from a phone, it’s harder to detect when a vehicle is actually moving.
However, I am glad that Google is coming around to provide support for both video apps and a sound mode. Like a YouTube -Premium subscriber, I watch a lot of videos and having access to them in my car will add much more entertainment to travel.
Even with the video disabled, I can listen to live music performances, video explanors, surrounding music mixes, video podcasts, interviews and much more in addition. So when I am parked, I can also check the football height points.
This is only worked on by developers for Android Automotive, so it can be a significant before it comes to the consumer version of Android Auto – but I wait patient to use it as soon as it looks.
