‘Accidents causing more death than terrorism’

Islamabad:

A member of a constitutional bench (CB) from the Supreme Court on Friday observed that more people are dying in the country in road accidents than due to terrorism or illness.

“Does the government have any statistics with regard to the people who are lost in accidents?” Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail asked while hearing a petition filed against traffic accidents caused by heavy, overloaded vehicles.

During the hearing, the lawyer argued for the petitioner, Barristrist Zafarullah, that the real question lies in the places where vehicles are overloaded. “Without taking steps towards these load points, the problem cannot be controlled,” he said.
