- Acer, a company best known for computer components releases a new health tracking smart ring
- Acer Freesense Ring comes in rose gold or black, and will pack ‘AI enhanced’ wellness -insight
- Acer has not announced a price of the ring but it has said that there will be no additional subscription fee
Acer has announced Acer Freesense Ring, a new health tracking Smart Ring that offers ‘AI improved’ wellness insight.
It was revealed at this year’s Computex conference in Taipei, and we do not yet know how much the ring will cost or when it will go on sale – but we know it will not come with additional subscription fees.
With two color settings, rose gold (a matte finish) or black (gloss finish), the ring will be available in sizes 7-13. It weighs between 2-3g and Acer says it’s “designed by ultra-light titanium alloy.”
Even the best smart rings have a plastic interior to better accommodate the sensor array, and we imagine that will be the case here too. It is waterproof classified on 5atm, which means it is the shower and swim, but probably not suitable for diving.
Acer Freesense sounds a lot like other smart rings from Oura and Samsung, specifically with regard to the data it collects. A press release from Acer says “the ring traces important physiological measurements such as heartbeat, heart rhythm variability, blood oxygen levels and sleep quality.
“The data points are analyzed via an accompanying mobile app that generates personal wellness insights and gives suggestions. With features such as Sleep -Scenalysis and continuous tracking helps the Acer Freesense ring to encourage proactive health management and lifestyle awareness.”
Back in the health and fitness ring
Acer has released Smartwatches and Fitness -Trackers in the past with its Acer Leap series, but none of these devices ranked among the best fitness trackers in the era and was never really caught on. With smart rings now a fast -growing category of the health device, this may prove to be another chance of Acer in the health room.
Acer is also the latest of several Smart ring manufacturer that makes a point in the fact that its device does not require an additional subscription, as an important point of sale to differentiate it from like Oura Ring 4. With so many health and fitness services that now require a subscription, it is refreshing to see more companies embracing the disposable philosophy.
Acer is already busy on Computex this year – In addition to the Freesense ring, a few earplugs are also announced for translation, a new range of electric bikes and computer equipment.
