- AdGuard VPN is now available on Firefox for Android
- The 2.8 version also has UI improvements
- The company recently open-sourced its VPN protocol
Is Firefox on your phone non-negotiable and the magic of AdGuard VPN is hassle-free? Then a new upgrade from the ad-blocker specialist just might make your day.
The company has just rolled out a new version that extends AdGuard’s VPN functionality to Firefox for Android. This means that Firefox users can now install AdGuard VPN as a mobile extension and enjoy the same benefits and features that were previously desktop-only enabled.
For Mozilla lovers only
“This update is definitely for those who prefer the ‘fox’ among browsers,” AdGuard said in a opinion on X.
Until version 2.8, users could only use AdGuard’s VPN features through a full-fledged VPN app, leaving Firefox users with two options: using AdGuard on mobile devices through another browser or resorting to another VPN provider.
The new version eliminates the dilemma, allowing users to enable the AdGuard VPN extension directly from their browser settings to automatically enjoy data protection, encrypted connections, location masking and fluid, uninterrupted streaming right in the mobile browser.
You can also take advantage of AdGuard’s quantum-resistant encryption, which the company recently integrated into its software to ensure data protection against new threats from quantum computers.

In addition, the new version features a revamped interface that upgrades the streaming experience, including new icons that help identify the best streaming locations.
By clicking on each icon, you can find out what streaming services (such as Netflix, Disney, or Hulu) are available in each location to choose the one that offers the best streaming experience to watch your favorite shows without unexpected buffering.
The provider also said it streamlined the interface to minimize visual clutter, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Installation is a breeze, AdGuard explains in a blog post:
- Just open Firefox on Android and tap the three dots in the address bar of the browser.
- So select “extensions”.
- And add your VPN to the list to install it and access the service.
It’s an open source world
Firefox and open-source enthusiasts seem to often go hand-in-hand, so it’s no surprise that the upgrade comes a few weeks after AdGuard decided to open-source its custom VPN protocol, Trust Tunnel.
The VPN, which promises to evade censorship by mimicking regular web traffic, is currently available in open source to “use, run, tweak, extend and build upon,” the provider said.
With a new VPN browser extension, the provider further strengthens its relationship with the ecosystem and expands its availability on Firefox, while users are invited to provide feedback on version 2.8 or suggest features or changes on GitHub.
At the same time, the move suggests that the Cyprus-based company is really focused on prioritizing usability for all modes, as v2.8 was launched in the same week as version 2.9 for Windows.
The latter promises improved accessibility and streaming navigation throughout the app, transforming its privacy solutions into a more inclusive tool. It even builds on v.2.8 by introducing screen readers to ensure internet protection is easy to manage for everyone, regardless of how they interact with VPN software – bringing everyone together, from novices to experts.
