Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) President AFAQ Ahmed has strongly condemned the recent turmoil in Karachi, claiming the violence was overlooked and called on the government to take immediate action against those responsible for disturbing peace in the city, Express News reported.

Ahmed referred to a press conference in Karachi on Thursday, referring to an incident in North Karachi that took place the previous night.

He urged citizens to peacefully get out on the streets to demand their rights on Saturday. “I appealed to the people of Karachi to protest against the injustices committed in this city. I expanded a call for both political and religious parties to participate in a peaceful demonstration,” he said.

He emphasized that the protests are a result of the government’s continued failure to solve the city’s long -standing problems. “People are hopeful now that someone is ready to stand for the city without fearing consequences. This city has a little more than just traffic accidents-we face deeply rooted injustices,” he said.

Ahmed also expressed serious concerns about the deteriorating educational status in Karachi. “The academic system has been destroyed. The entire exam centers are changed and the results are manipulated. Who is responsible for our students’ suffering?” He asked.

He highlighted the diversity of Karachi and added, “This city is home to people in any language, ethnicity and background. But those born and raised here face discrimination. When I raised my voice against the heavy traffic system, a political party accused me of having initiated ethnic conflict between Muhajirs and Pashtuns.”

He rejected these accusations and said, “They accused me of trying to divide society, but MQM-H will never allow anyone to plunder the province’s resources. When I tried to unite people, I was felt a criminal.”

Referring to the violent incident Ahmed said: “This was a calculated step. Rumors were deliberately spread that people were dead, which created panic. Is our institutions not aware of what is happening? Why is this chaos allowed in the city?”

He also pointed out that heavy vehicles as dumpers were deliberately brought into the protest areas to intensify the situation. “We did not come here to hear anti-state slogans. If the authorities are serious, they can understand the agitators in just one day,” he claimed.

Ahmed expressed concern about law and order and said, “Yesterday’s events are deeply alarming. Are our institutions even able to maintain peace in this city? I demand that those who have destabilized law and order be arrested and presented to the public to reveal who is really behind these disturbances.”

He concluded by repeating that MQM-H’s protest is against corruption and injustice. “Our movement is peaceful and against government oppression. We appeal to all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, to join us with white flags on April 12 in a non-violent protest.”

“This is a peaceful movement. No one is allowed to encourage violence. The authorities must act against those trying to disturb peace,” he confirmed.
