Afghan Taliban moves TTP families

Islamabad:

In an attempt to place Pakistan’s growing anger, the preliminary Afghan Taliban government has moved some family members in the forbidden Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from border regions to other parts of Afghanistan.

A senior Pakistani official confirmed the development of the Express Pakinomist here on Tuesday, but emphasized that the move was too little to tackle the country’s many years of concerns.

It is believed that the Taliban’s latest step came after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) pushed the Kabul administration to tackle Pakistan’s concern about the terrorist’s hiding place.

Taliban acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani together with the Taliban Intelligence Chief Recently traveled to UAE and held conversations with UAE management. Before their journey, a Pakistani delegation also visited the golfland as part of the efforts to tackle the question of TTP.

There was no official confirmation from both sides about the development and the potential role that UAE played to facilitate tension between the two countries.

However, the Pakistani official recognized the role of UAE as well as Qatar to mediate a kind of path forward in the question of TTP.

The official said that certain family members of TTP, mostly women and children, were moved from border areas in Pakistan to other areas of Afghanistan.

However, the official made it clear that the Taliban government took similar events in the past with little influence. Given the fact that only members of the TTP were moved and not fighters, this would have little influence on the earth.

In addition, the official said the process of moving TTP from border areas had to be completed a long time ago, but it was carefully slow.

According to some estimates, there are between 6,000 to 8,000 TTP terrorists operating from Afghanistan. In addition to another 20,000 family members who have taken refugees across the border.

Given this huge number, the move of a few hundred family members of TTP was not responded to the demand of Pakistan, according to another official.

The official said the idea of relocation of TTP from border areas came from the Taliban after expressing their reluctance to use power against them.

Pakistan was always skeptical of the proposal, as the Taliban was not ready to give regular guarantees that TTP would no longer pose a threat to neighboring countries.

The news of moving certain TTP members came only weeks after Pakistan reportedly conducted strikes across the border targeting the terrorist’s hiding place.

Sources said the Taliban management was shared about the question of TTP. Some members believe that Kabul should tackle Pakistan’s concerns and not let TTP operate from its land. However, there are others within the decision circle that support TTP.

Sources said Pakistan considered the latest development just a “baby step” to tackle the most complex challenge of TTP.

Pakistan has repeatedly informed the Taliban management that bilateral cooperation between the two neighbors depends on Kabul drawing a decisive action against TTP.
