Karachi/Rawalpindi/Peshawar:

As the clock ran out at the government’s deadline for undocumented foreigners to leave the country, Afghan citizens over several cities on Friday began packing their bags – some volunteer, others by force.

The authorities meanwhile are turned up the heat. Law enforcement authorities have increased operations across multiple cities to facilitate what officials now describe as “forced repatriation” of Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders. With the voluntary repatriation period that ends, many Afghan-Run stores and offices in commercial areas of Peshawar have been closed since Eid.

Afghan citizens have closed their stores and offices in Peshawar’s commercial nodes, while law enforcement authorities have intensified the operation to facilitate the repatriation process.

As part of Nadra’s National Re-Verification and Renewal campaign, dozens of Afghan individuals have had their Pakistani identity card canceled.

A major crash is expected after April 11. So far, 153 Afghan refugees have voluntarily returned to Afghanistan.

Stores owned by Afghan citizens involved in different trades – including food, blankets, in relation to footwear – remained closed after Eid.

While a short Eidul Fitr Rieve had given Afghan citizens extra time, authorities said the installment period was over and no further extensions would be awarded.

In addition, officials warn that arrests are expected to begin soon. Although detention has not yet begun in KP, sources say it is only a matter of time before the hammer comes down.

In Rawalpindi, in Rawalpindi, over 50 people who had Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) were taken into custody during police operations and moved to temporary camps.

According to police sources, several teams of operations perform across different areas. People who hold ACCs will be repatriated to Afghanistan from these camps.

Sources added that families of card holders will also be detained and transferred to the camps.

The operations are now performed daily.

Similarly, authorities and law enforcement authorities began implementing the federal government’s policy of deporting undocumented foreign nationals on Friday and launching what officials described as the ‘forced re -patriation’ of ACC holders.

According to official data, the operation is targeted at an estimated 16,138 individuals, with more than 150 already detained in Karachi alone.

South Deputy Pos Inspector (you) Syed Asad Raza confirmed that 162 ACC holders had so far been brought to the designated possession facility.

Some were released after verification revealed that they had proof of registration card (por) instead.

You Raza said that a total of 196 Afghans from different areas were brought to the camp on April 3.
