After sparking controversy during the presentation ceremony after the Asia Cup 2025 final, India takes the winner’s trophy -Thil to International Cricket Council (ICC).

The Indian team refused to gather the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi after defeating Pakistan in the final with five wickets in Dubai on Sunday.

The move allegedly came on the directives of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI); However, Naqvi – who is also chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) – remained firm that he would present the trophy as ACC president.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has now confirmed the same for Indian media.

“We decided not to take the trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the most important leaders in Pakistan,” quoted Indian media Saikien.

The battle resulted in a brief delay in the presentation ceremony, which saw Pakistan players collect their medals as runners.

Presenting Simon Doull confirmed the end of the ceremony after the match without the winning team that received the trophy.

“I have been informed by ACC that the Indian cricket team will not collect their prices tonight. So it ends the presentation after the match,” informed Doull.

However, India players Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma and Koldepe Yadav showed up to accept their individual awards.

Then organizers took the Asia Cup trophy with them and left the Indian team waiting to get their hands on the title trophy.

Naqvis insisting on presenting the trophy to the winning team came despite the Indian team’s recent actions of drawing politics into the game, with the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who refused a usual handshake with Pakistan’s Salman Ali Agha in their group stage.

He repeated the same in their following two matches, an act that has been condemned by teachers all over the world.

The BCCI Secretary has now confirmed their plans to file a complaint about Naqvi over the trophy trait in the next ICC meeting scheduled in November.

The BCCI secretary spoke in the same lines as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which equates the cricket victory with “Operation Sindoor,” the name given to India’s series of strikes in Pakistan, resulting in several civilian martyrdoms.

“#Operationdoor on the game field. The result is the same – India wins! Congratulations on our cricketers,” Modi wrote in a post on the X after the Asia Cup final.

Saikia said the Indian “armed forces delivered in the border area. Now the same thing is repeated in Dubai”.
