Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has called on the Sindh government to prioritize the development of Karachi’s infrastructure, especially the K-IV water supply project, which calls the city of Pakistan’s economic and economic hub, reported Express News.
Iqbal told the media after a meeting with members of the Pakistani Business Council, and said the federal government is investing RS125b in the K-IV project and expects the provincial government to fulfill its responsibility for downstream components.
He emphasized that Karachi, who was the economic runway for Pakistan, must receive focused infrastructure support. “The federal government has already approved RS5B for road construction in the industrial place,” he noted.
Iqbal emphasized that the federal government will play an active role in improving Karachi’s infrastructure and referring to the successful end of the Green Line BRT project that saw an RS25B investment.
During the briefing, he emphasized the need to exploit the company’s potential as the primary engine of economic growth. He explained that the capacity of the public sector to attract investment has diminished due to ongoing crises, making the role of private company more crucial.
He also noted that the government has launched several initiatives to increase the youth skills in the IT sector and intend to cooperate with the business sector to fulfill global environmental standards. He praised corporate efforts to support women and people with disabilities and called for continued improvements in these areas.
“We will form a working group in the Ministry of Planning to tackle challenges with the private sector with priority,” he added. “The Pakistani Business Council has promised its cooperation and its research continues to help shape effective economic policies.”
Iqbal reiterated that public-private partnerships would be the key to activating unused government assets and land.
In addition, he confirmed that work with Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorvej begins in 2025, with expected completion within three years. The Ministry of Communications has also started to the feasibility work for a new adaptation of the Hyderabad-Karachi motorway.
Completed his comments called on Iqbal for the recycling of wastewater in Karachi, which suggested its recycling in agriculture and industry, which would help tackle the city’s water needs sustainably.
