- New AirPods -Features required for WWDC 2025 -Disclosure
- AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 can get camera control, a new MIC mode and new main movements
- Sleep detection can also require Apple Watch
We are just days away from Apple’s annual developer event, WWDC 2025, and that means the unveiling of the next macos, iOS and iPados is imminent. And if reports are correct, it means more really interesting upgrades for AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with ANC and AirPods Pro 2.
The news comes via 9TO5MAC, which has shared five features, which it expects to be revealed under the keynote speaker on Monday 9. June-self we cannot use them until the beta versions are released in the driveway for their usual launch date for September.
What new features come to AirPods in iOS 26?
The iOS 26 numbering is reportedly moving to years instead of versions, so all Apple’s operating system numbers are synchronized-
Main movements were added to AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 last year: You can reject calls (and some other messages) with a shake of the head or nod to accept them. Now Apple is apparently working on additional movements, including one that expands the volume adjustment of conversation awareness, a condition that reduces sound when you speak.
Apple has also worked on detecting when you fall asleep while listening to your AirPods. However, it is unclear whether this will be an AirPods/iPhone feature alone or whether it requires the sleep detection feature of the best Apple Watches.
The third feature is one of these “Can’t believe they didn’t do it many years ago”: Controling your camera trays with your AirPods stalk, just as you can do with the volume control on Earpods.
Audio Mix, which was introduced with iPhone 16, also improves: 9to5Mac understands that there will be a new “Study Quality” microphone mode that will make AirPods more attractive to “Holding Little Lavalier Microphones, as if they were full size hand -held microphones” on social media creates the market.
Last but not least, there will be improved class support that will make it easier to have multiple AirPods users connecting to the same iPad by removing some of the friction in the current mating system.
It is likely that we will hear about at least some of these features on Monday, June 9, although of course it does not necessarily mean that they will certainly make it iOS 26: After the smarter-siri debakel, we do not take anything for granted until it is actually there in our iPhones.
