Apple has announced that hearing aid mode for AirPods Pro 2, which was announced and launched in the US last year, is coming to the UK today, Monday, February 24, 2025. We already knew it was coming to the UK after a legislative change, but not When – however, you can expect it to be enabled to be transferable.
AirPods Pro 2 is able to help with mild to moderate hearing loss, and hearing aid mode is designed to help people increase certain frequencies that can make it difficult for them to hear conversations in tall rooms, for example – especially in combination with Apple’s noise -manding technology used in the earbuds.
Using them as hearing aids is a two -step process: First, you take a hearing aid with them in your ears from your iPhone by listening to a variety of tones while in a quiet room. This was already available in the UK, and we recommend that everyone try it – as our author, you can find interesting things even if you have no hearing problems or it can help clarify things for you.
The second step is that AirPods can take the results of your hearing test and create hearing aid profile. This second part has been missed in the UK so far, but we have tried it in the United States and it can be very powerful.
Techradar -Administrating Editor Jacob Krol, persuaded his father to try hearing aid mode, as someone who has a little trouble hearing but not using a hearing aid, and he loved how much it helped him follow conversations better and pick up subtle Sounds that he was missing before.
There are plenty of people who oppose hearing aids for various reasons and being able to use (relatively) cheap earplugs as an alternative can help many more people try to hear augmentation.
It’s as long as they also have an iPhone and don’t hear support all day. There is no Android support for this feature on AirPods Pro 2 and you are limited to the approximately six hour battery life that AirPods Pro 2 has before then needs recharging from their case.
But for some people it will be perfect – they only need them when they eat lunch with a friend or watch TV for a few hours, and can put them back in the case to charge when the extra nuance they offer.
The feature is only available for AirPods Pro 2, not one of the other best Airpods self the newer AirPods 4 because it requires it in the earlobe that only the PRO model provides.
If you have trouble finding the new feature, make sure your iPhone is up to date by going to the Settings app, then generally, then software update, to check for an update on that device. AirPods need to update their software automatically in the background when charging and not in use, but Apple recently shared final instructions on how to update AirPods.
