Alex Ovechkin donates to cancer research for the rest of the NHL career

Washington capitals The star Alex Ovechkin is in hot persecution of hockey history, and the veteran NHL star undertook on Wednesday who wants influence beyond the sport.

The capitals announced on Wednesday a partnership with Ovechkin, Hockey Fights Cancer and V Foundation to raise money for pediatric cancer research that parallels his persecution of NHL career target scoring record.

In a statement from the team, Ovechkin promised to use his platform to make a difference.

“Throughout my NHL career, I have met many brave children who are fighting cancer, and I feel it is important to do what I can to help save more lives from this terrible illness,” Ovechkin said. “I want to thank V Foundation for all their hard work and I look forward to using my platform and doing everything I can to help promote the V Foundation, and Hockey is fighting for Cancer’s Mission.”

Ovechkin is 11 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s brand of 894 goals. Begins with Wednesday’s match against New York Rangers, Ovechkin will give a donation equal to his career goal in everything every time he scores the rest of his career.

And his donations will be matched by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which owns Caps.

“Alex Ovechkin’s summit to greatness on the ice has been a tension for all hockey fans, and his commitment to funding innovative pediatric cancer research will have a life -saving influence in the coming years,” said Shane Jacobson, CEO of V Foundation for Cancer Research.

“We are happy to have Alex on our team. We look forward to celebrating his results and celebrating progress in cancer research together.”

Ovechkin, 39, has 31 goals this season after being sidelined in 16 games after breaking his leg in November.
