Alex Warren recalls the struggling days before he achieved fame

Alex Warren reflected on his life before fame and the struggles he went through to gain public validation.

The Common hitmaker first gained traction online as a member of Hype house collective on TikTok before releasing his debut song in 2021, One more I love you.

In a preview clip from his upcoming interview on CBS Morningtold Warren what his life was like before he became a hit.

“All my life I wasn’t the best singer in my class. I wasn’t great. My choir teacher didn’t believe me, to say the least,” he admitted.

The Carry yourself home the singer continued: “I don’t have the stereotypical voice that I like. I put a lot of emotion into things, I have a raspy voice.”

Warren also admitted that he used to feel that his voice was not the one that people liked. “They liked Justin Bieber, writing songs about girls, a good-looking guy,” he explained. “And I was a chubby white kid who was more red than anything else.”

He shares his experience of being nominated for the 2026 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, Before you leave me crooner said the recognition felt “very validating.”

He added: “I think I’ve worked really hard to become who I am today and it was one of those moments where I kind of got to look up at the sky and be quite excited.”

Warren is nominated against Olivia Dean, KATSEYE, The MarĂ­as, Addison Rae, Sombr, Leon Thomas and Lola Young.

The 2026 Grammy Awards will be held on February 1.
