Alexander Payne appointed next juror for the Venice Film Festival

American director Alexander Payne is heading the main competition -jury at this year’s Venice Film Festival, organizers said on Monday.

Payne’s movie, including the comedies HOLDOVERSAt Page andThe descendantsHas been nominated for a total of 24 Oscars, including four times to best photo and three times for best instructor.

He has won twice for the best adapted manuscript.

“It is a huge honor and joy to serve in the jury in Venice. Although I share a filmmaker’s ambivalence to compare films with each other, I honor the Venice Film Festival’s almost 100-year history of celebrating films as an art form,” Payne said in a statement.

The 82nd Venice Film Festival, held at Lagoon City’s Lido Island, runs from August 27 to September 6. The films in competition will be announced in July.

Payne’s comedy 2017 Degradation opened the festival in 2017.
