- Amazon has quietly listed Kindle Colorsoft Ereader in his Australian place
- It is now available to buy for AU $ 399
- It is also sent to New Zealand for NZ $ 417, although it may incur shipping costs
Originally released in other major markets such as the United States and the UK in October 2024, it has taken Amazon quite a long time to bring Kindle Colorsoft down. It has been quietly added to Amazon’s AU site and can be purchased immediately.
It made headlines abroad to be the only color Kindle released, and in our Kindle Colorsoft review our tests were quite taken by it. I can understand why, especially if you are already a Kindle user and subscribe to services like Prime Reading or Kindle Unlimited.
The 7-inch E Ink Kaleido 3-Display is doing well to show book cover, manga and comic books, according to our review, but I haven’t had the chance to see it for myself yet-I can’t wait to see how it stacks up its competition from like Kobo-Libra color, Kobo Clara color and onyx BOOX colors BOOX as well).
Due to being the only color Kindle, Colorsoft is already one of the best cheeks to buy, now available from Amazon AU for AU $ 399. It is also sent over the ditch to New Zealand for around AU $ 417.
It’s not a bad price for a 7-inch color Kindle, but I’m not entirely convinced that it represents good value, especially in Australia.
Color me skeptical
I’ve been eagerly waiting for Kindle Colorsoft to be launched in Australia, but now that I’ve seen his RRP, I’m not sure I would buy it myself – here’s why.
It is in direct competition with Kobo’s two color ereaders. In terms of design, the Kobo Clara color is the 6-inch alternative that offers virtually the same function kit as Colorsoft, but for AU $ 269.95. They both use the same screen – though Kobo is smaller – and they are both waterproof with an IPX8 certification. They also share the same 16 GB onboard storage specification.
In terms of size – and in terms of price – Colorsoft is closer to the Kobo Libra color that costs AU $ 379.95 in Australia. This 7-inch Kobo also uses the same display technology, but comes with full writing capacities. You will need to buy Kobo Stylus 2 separately, but it is still a feature that Colorsoft does not offer.
If you usually find yourself holding your Ereader in one hand, the design of the weight color with its physical side-friendly buttons will be more ergonomic than the regular tablet-like setup of Kindle.
Then there is the difference in storage capacity: The weight color comes with twice the space of 32 GB. You also have Bluetooth support on Kobos (all together) that you don’t get on any current Kindle in Australia, so you can’t connect to your audible account to listen to audiobooks.
It may not be an appointment for many readers, but you also can’t borrow from a local library via a Kindle in Australia – you can use a Kobo Ereader if your library also uses the Overdrive Platform.
To be fair, but now that Colorsoft is available locally, it is very likely that it looks bigger discounts than the unhappy AU $ 20 Kobo typically offers on its devices. So my advice if you really want Kindle Colorsoft: wait for a big sale as the next Prime Day in October or Amazon Black Friday sales in November.
