- A Redditor has revealed what may be Amazon’s next Kindle Ereaeader
- It is reportedly a smaller – and potentially cheaper – version of Kindle Colorsoft
- The prototype, called Kindle Petit Color, is jerked to have features that were never seen before anyone Ereader
A Brazilian Redditor, who goes by the username Successy_Bear4855, has today leaked images and offered personal insight into a prototype color Ereader and claims that it is Amazon’s next Kindle release announced in November. The pictures show an ereader with white frame, something we haven’t seen on a kindle in a while, and is apparently called the Kindle Petit color.
While this name, according to Redditor, is not set in stone, the new device seems to be about the same dimensions as the current basic Amazon Kindle 2024, but boasts a color e -ink view along with features that I haven’t seen in any EREADER – and I’ve been testing dozens in the last eight years.
According to the leaks, which apparently tests the device, the color saturation on Petit is better than the Kindle Colorsoft and has a setting that allows users to adjust saturation for individual colors. It is not clearly exactly how it works, but I have tested devices like Onyx BOOX Go Color 7, offering different screen modes such as ‘living’ that increase color colors, even if the adjustment is made as a whole and not ‘per color’.
Petit also apparently has a feature called “Progressive Colors” which, according to the author of the post, allows users to “create your text to change color according to the reading process”. There are apparently four colors to choose from, and these can change when you get through every quarter of the book. The same color also appears on the status bar, as per. Posts, and individual icons across the UI can also appear in user -picked shades.
Personally I don’t see the appeal to this “progressive color” feature but Redditor claims Amazon just wants to “maximize the use of color due to how bad it has been used in Colorsoft [sic]”. Although not what I would call a useful addition, I am at least a little curious to see how well it is executed … if this kindle even gets released.
Color me skeptical
You can color me excited if there is really a new Kindle in the works – especially if we see it already in November this year – but there are details in this Reddit wire that will make me question the veracity of the leak.
From what I can tell by the leak’s mention of a 150 PPI color solution in the thread, this new Kindle is likely to use E Ink Kaleido 3 display, which limits the amount of saturation it can maintain. In my experience, better colors of this screen technology always come at the expense of text sharpness. The smaller screen size of this leaked Ereader should inadvertently help the text look less fuzzy compared to larger devices, but this is something I need to see for myself before I would recommend it as one of the best kindles.
Then there are the removable frames that the author of The Post mentions. When asked if it will be available in other colors, Redditor says it will come in the usual black and white, but “for the first time the frame will be removable”. Replacements will also be available for purchase from November apparently in “Green Leaf, Deep Purple, Chromatically Gray and a special version called Mermaid, which changes from soft pink to soft teal depending on the angle you look at it”.
Again, I’m not sure of removable Bezels – no Ereader brand has tried to do something similar before … Unless it’s just skins, you can stick to the chassis. I suppose time will show.

Second reporting suggests this Kindle could be cheaper than Colorsoft, but if these leaks are true, I’m not sure Amazon would sell it at a lower price. Screen optimization and color features alone could justify a price increase in Amazon’s eyes. Then there will be the extra cost of the removable frame (or skins), although I may come in front of myself here.
This leak is also very public and I would wonder why a tester would risk Amazon’s anger by revealing so many details. With that in mind, I take this news with more than just a few grains of salt.
A potential strike against this leak’s accuracy is that Amazon is not known to release new Kindles in quick order. It took the company three years to release a new Kindle Paperwhite, while the Kindle Scribe got an update after two years. The base Kindle also had a two-year hole. Furthermore, Amazon only expanded his Colorsoft range with new models, so I’m not sure the tech giant will put a brand new Ereeader in 2025. However, we can hope.
