- Amazon’s AWS cloud service suffered an error today
- It caused a cascade of websites to go offline or slow to a crawl
- The worst seems to be over, but many sites are still affected
If you’ve felt like the Internet is unusually slow today—or noticed that some of your favorite websites are simply not working—you’re not crazy. There has been a major outage affecting Amazon Web Services (AWS) and since a large number of websites are hosted and operated by this cloud platform, it has caused chaos around the web.
Everything from Reddit and Roblox to Snapchat and Slack have been affected, not to mention all of Amazon’s own services—as we noted in our live blog, about 1,000 sites are expected to experience some form of difficulty. The damage has been extensive and has highlighted how much of the network is dependent on this single point of failure.
If you’ve been wondering if you’ll be able to access your regular websites or aren’t sure why the page you’ve been visiting has slowed to a crawl, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve checked Downdetector and compiled a list of all the major sites affected by the AWS outage. Just check below to see what is not working properly.

That’s a bunch of massive sites that indicate how widespread the problems are. All in all, it’s been a bad day for the internet.
Fortunately, things are starting to improve and many sites have at least partially recovered from the worst of the crisis. But the issues haven’t completely gone away, so you can expect sluggish load times and widespread unavailability for some time to come.
