- Nvidias RTX 5060 Ti are already present in the top GPUs for steam players
- It has a small but noticeable 0.21% market share, less than two months after launching
- AMDS RX 9070 models have not shown at all in the steam hardware survey, although its fortunes can change with the RX 9060 GPUs
Nvidia’s RTX 5060 TI GPU has only been out for a month and a half, but it has already been established as a better selling graphics card than AMDS RX 9070 models, according to the latest steam hardware study for May.
As Videocardz highlighted, AMD’s new RDNA 4 GPUs have still failed to appear anywhere on the list of the most popular graphics cards of Rigs of Steam Gamers, while the RTX 5060 TI is 0.21% market share after less than two months.
It is the second largest gain of the month, only behind the RTX 5070, which picked up 0.33% of the GPU market share to end at 0.71%.
RTX 5080 also sneaked up to 0.47%, a gain of 0.09% for the month of May. As the RTX 5070 ten increased by 0.11% to a total of 0.38%, the RTX 5000 family accounts for 1.77% of all games -PCs on Steam, as per year. Snapshot from last month.
While AMDS RX 9070 models have not yet received any percentage points in the survey, despite being launched in early March, three months ago.
Of course, take the results of a study with an appropriate amount of caution, although this month does not appear to have been affected by any regional based oddities. Sometimes we can see a significant shift in the number of PCs included from Asia, which has different hardware preferences, and this can cause specific GPUs to appear as if they have gained popularity when it is actually only a reflection of the respondents’ makeup.
Analysis: Pricing on the shelf and consumers’ perception
Why are the AMDS RX 9070 models around with regard to their inability to influence Valve’s study?
It is a difficult question to answer, but to some part it can be down to supply levels and pricing. RX 9070, and especially 9070 XT, has a bit of low stock of graphics cards on MSRP. There are models on the shelves, but the pricing is bloated and you pay quite a bit more. At the time of writing in the United States, 9070 XT is about $ 800, The Plain 9070 around $ 650, for their cheapest pricing.
Despite the glowing reviews of the 9070 XT, the premium price is putting this GPU well out of reach for the average PC owner. And pretty much ditto for Vanilla 9070 – or at least it puts the brakes on sales in a significant way. The thing at RTX 5060 TI is that you can pick up one for as little as $ 390, so that’s a big difference.
Okay, so it’s another class of GPU assigned (XX70 versus XX60), and the cheaper RTX 5060 TI models with 8 GB video RAM (VRAM) also have a sting in the tail with the lean allocation of VRAM. Meaning of the performance is not as good as the 16 GB version of this NVIDIA graphics card, which is priced close to $ 500 or so (all prices are correct at the time of writing).
Still, the average player may not be much of these performance differences. And in fact, the RTX 5060 TI 8GB is sufficient if all you are interested in, some less demanding PC games play in 1080p resolution without maximizing graphics settings. Present this graphics card with more challenging game workload for its VRAM Loadout and you have at least trouble at least if you want higher graphics details, even at 1080p resolution -you look at using medium details.
As noted, however, it may not be for a typical buyer who just wants to afford a new, groundbreaking graphics card, and is happy to go with an RTX 5060 Ti because it sounds close (-ish) enough for an RTX 5070 on paper, without fully understanding the wrinkles around Vram if plumped for 8GB spin. This also applies a lot to the RTX 5060, of course, which also has 8 GB.
It will be interesting to see if the regular RTX 5060 will soon be debuting in the steam hardware survey – it has been exposed to a lot of criticism and flak, to put it mildly – and in fact we have AMD’s incoming RX 9060 models, which are now imminent.
The pricing and accessibility of these more affordable RDNA 4 graphics card will of course be key, and while Team Red has beaten MSRPs at a nicely affordable level, will it translate with the actual prices on the shelves?
That is exactly what haven’t happened to the RX 9070 models (yet) and that will be the decisive factor for this next RDNA 4 launch.
