- Both AMD Ryzen 9900x3D and 9950x3d release on 12 March 2025
- The respective MSRPs for both CPUs are $ 599 and $ 699, similar to previous gene
- The former has a 120W TDP while the latter uses a 170W TDP instead
Several months after being announced on CES 2025, AMD has now officially confirmed the price and release date of its Ryzen 9 9900x3D and 9950x3D processors. They are billed as “the world’s best processor for games and content creation”.
Both Ryzen 9 9900x3D and 9950x3D processors will be available from March 12, 2025. The former wears an MSRP of $ 599, the latter being available for $ 699, being the two most expensive (and high-performance) chips from the company.
On the technical side of things, Ryzen 9 9950x3D is confirmed to have 16 cores (32 threads) with a basic speed of 4.3 GHz and a boost -watch of up to 5.7 GHz. There are 144 MB second generation of 3D V-cache stacked aboard with a 170W TDP.
In contrast, the secondary processor, AMD Ryzen 9 9900x3d, 12 cores (24 strands) with a basic speed of 4.4 GHz and a boost watch of up to 5.5 GHz and 128 MB 3D V-cache pool available. Unlike the flagship model, this processor has the lower 120W TDP for Ryzen 9 9900x (and cheaper Ryzen 7 9800x3d), which debuted back in August and November 2024.
As with all Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000 processors, 9900x3D and 9950x3D are built on the AM5 platform, which means you need a compatible motherboard. Similarly, these chips are exclusively built for DDR5 RAM and have PCIE 5.0 compatibility out of the box. If you are thinking about upgrading from an older AM4 platform, you will have to do more than just replace chips.
Regardless of which of the two new processors you choose, you will want to invest in one of the best CPU coolers in 2025 to keep these core temperatures down, whether you are playing, reproducing projects or more. This is especially true for Ryzen 9950x3d with its 170W TDP, which matches it for the non-3D variants, something we had not looked up before this time.
With a higher thermal design power, increased heat comes along with the performance. We recommend a dedicated AIO with a large radiator attached (such as 240 mm or 360 mm) with a PC case with sufficient air flow and fans inside the computer.
Leading CPU settings provided you have cash to use
While both AMD Ryzen 9900x3D and 9950x3D processors are expensive, the company has made the smart decision to keep prices in line with the previous generation versions (7900x3d and 7950x3d) from 2023. Upgrading from AM4 must be swinging.
How AMD’s second generation of 3D V-cache works is about to have a dedicated pool of L3 memory stacked on the chip, which acts as a short (but incredibly fast) resource for the processor to access immediate data, for higher gaming frames and lower reproduction times than seen from processors without excess of L3 cache / V-cache. By having access to data so close to the CPU kernels, there is less delay between processes and higher performance as a result.
However, when players and content creators will notice the edge of the performance thanks to 3D V-cache. It is a curious (but welcome) decision to see Ryzen 9 9900x3d and 9950x3D with identical TDPs for their non-3D counterparts. We could therefore see improved performance everywhere.
