- The latest Google Messages Beta hides a working version of group chat that dampens
- The feature requires some effort to get started but seems likely to launch soon
- There is no word yet on a release date
Earlier this month, we reported rumors that suggested that Google messages would get a snooze feature so you can temporarily turn off group chat grouping, and now it looks even more likely to look more likely to be this feature.
It is, according to a new Android Authority Dearing of the latest Google Messages, where the AA team actually managed to make the tool work -which suggests it is very close to release.
The Snooze feature will see a new button added to the toolbar (which appears at the top of the screen when you long press a chat).
Selecting Snooze will cause another menu to appear where you can choose to dampen a group chain for one hour, eight hours, 24 hours or ‘always’. The menu also reveals that “Other members will not see that you snoozed this chat.”
You can also fine-tune your Snooze settings in user profiles, with this option that gives you the opportunity to fine-tune messages — such as dampening everything except directly @ mentions in the chat.
A group chat important
Muting can be an invaluable group chat feature. Sometimes you just have to focus on something for a few hours and don’t want your phone to be bombarded with notifications. And we have all been to the family group chat, which may be only a few very active relatives who pinging messages back and forth – it would feel rude to leave, but only approx. 5% of the messages are relevant to you (and if a message is relevant, the sender can always @ you).
Muting allows you to remove some distractions from your life without closing yourself out of socially.
As with all leaked features, there is no guarantee that this will be launched; Given how in -depth the attenuating feature already seems to be, it seems that it is not only on the way but on the road soon.
If and when it is eventually launched, it seems that it could be joined by two other very useful Google Message features that are also teased by the latest beta.
