- Xiaomi has listed the Black Shark Gaming Tablet on its global page, suggesting that it will get a wide launch
- Lenovo has teased its own new gaming tablet, dubbed the Legion Y700
- Prices and availability of these two tablets are yet to be confirmed
It’s not often we get to write about new gaming tablets, where this area seems even more niche than gaming phones, but that may be about to change as two such tablets appear to be on the way.
First, we have the Xiaomi Black Shark Gaming Tablet, a device that was teased at the end of last year, but at the time it was unclear if it would launch outside of China. Now it looks like it will, as Xiaomi has added the tablet to its global Black Shark site.
Unfortunately, you can’t order it yet, and indeed there’s no release date or price, but its presence there suggests it will land soon and may be widely available.
At least we know its specs though, with this listed as having a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, an 8.8-inch 1600 x 2560 display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a 7,300mAh battery, a 13MP front camera, a 5MP front camera, a choice of black front or silver finish.
It also has a “large VC heat sink, multiple graphene sheets and metal cooling structure” to keep it cool, and there’s also a gaming mode that mutes calls and messages and maximizes performance.
Lenovo’s latest Legion
Next up is the Lenovo Legion Y700, which Lenovo has teased on Weibo (via Android Authority). The company hasn’t said much about it, apart from mentioning AI, but the nifty Digital Chat Station claims it will have an 8.8-inch LCD display with a 165Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a 9,000mAh+ battery and a 50MP camera.
This will reportedly land in March, but it’s not clear if it will launch beyond China. Still, it’s nice to see some new gaming tablets arriving, at least one of which should be widely available.
Sure, it’s a niche space, especially with things like the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch 2 arguably more specialized alternatives, but there will definitely be some people who would rather have a gaming tablet.
