So it’s official: TechRadar readers are more Android fans than iPhone users. A result that I mostly expected, but not with quite such a big gap.
Around the start of November, I posted a poll that asked the big question: are TechRadar readers iPhone or Android? After several weeks, the results are in: 62% of poll participants are part of the Android Army, while 29% are Team Apple, and 10% use both.
Now, the wide range of choices when it comes to Android phones, including the selection of the best Android phones, will mean that such phones will be the most popular. Likewise, Apple has a huge presence in the US, as does TechRadar, so I would have thought we’d probably see closer to 40% of readers being iPhone users.

Right on the comments, one of the prominent reasons people choose Android over the iPhone comes down to the restrictive nature of Apple’s phones; Considering we’re talking about TechRadar readers, where I’d assume a bit more tech savvy than the average person, it’s no surprise that the iPhone’s locked-down nature might not appeal to some.
“I have always been that [an] Android user. Apple and iPhone are too controlling for me,” said commenter Cscar.
This was given further weight by commenter Godders: “I gave up on the iPhone years ago because I hated being forced to [do] things the Apple way. If I wanted to transfer a file to my PC, I had to email it to myself because iTunes made it difficult. No cut and paste option.”
“I switched to Sony Xperia which were good phones but I found the screens unreliable. Eventually I went for a Google Pixel 6 and more recently a Pixel 10 Pro. These are great phones and do everything I want and more. I can’t think of any reason why I would go back to the iPhone.”
As a big fan of the top Google Pixel phones, I can see why Godders went down the Pixel route. And these would be the phones I would recommend to anyone moving from iOS to Android.
There are some commenters who noted that they use both iPhone and Android, but the development of Android, combined with the solid hardware, seems to be one of the reasons why people choose Android phones or move from iPhone.
“I have both, there are elements I like better on each, but if I could only choose one it would definitely be android. There is so much more freedom and customization,” commented SErics. “The ability to sideload. I just prefer the Android interface over iOS, but of course that’s personal preference.”
Even though I’m an iPhone user because it’s so straightforward to use and somewhat tool-like rather than an exciting gadget, I’m once again feeling the pull of Android. I’d be curious to see what the rumored Samsung Galaxy S26 brings to the table next year and whether it will be the phone that brings me back to Android.
If you have any thoughts to add, head to the comments and let me know, especially if you’re a die-hard iPhone user.
