- The Soundcore AeroFit 2 Pro earphones launch for $179.99, initially for the US only
- Adjustable ear hooks turn open ears into in-ears with noise reduction
- Sensors recalibrate the EQ in real time
Choosing earphones for a specific purpose can mean making compromises: the best open-ear earphones can’t perform fully effective noise cancellation because they don’t sit in your ear canals, and the transparency mode of the best noise-cancelling earphones doesn’t feel quite as real as the actual ambient sound you experience with open ears.
Some people also find it a little uncomfortable to have earplugs in their ears for long periods of time. But a new pair of knobs from Soundcore – Anker’s audio and visual brand – can offer a no-compromise solution.
The Soundcore AeroFit 2 Pro earphones are open-ear, but they have a five-level angle-adjustable ear hook that allows you to move the mouthpiece of the earphones closer to the entrance of your ear. It delivers passive noise reduction from the newly tight fit, meaning the earphones can then use active noise reduction more effectively to get rid of unwanted ambient sound.
Soundcore AeroFit Pro 2: key features
When you adjust the position of the earphones, twin sensors in each earphone detect the change and recalibrate the EQ to suit the mode you’re using – and according to Anker, that means a consistent sound experience. And they’re great for gym and outdoor use thanks to IP55 water and sweat resistance.
Anker describes the in-ear option as “semi-in-ear,” a low, open-ear design that sits close to your ear without pushing the earphone deep into your ear canal. The earphones feature version 3.0 of Soundcore’s Adaptive ANC, which samples at up to 380,000 times per second and makes up to 180 dynamic adjustments per minute as the sound around you changes.
There are six microphones in total, designed to capture what’s happening from multiple directions, and four voice microphones to keep your voice clear in calls.
These earphones should sound pretty good with decent low-end thump: they have 11.8mm custom drivers, support head-tracking spatial audio and hi-res audio via LDAC.
There are several color options – matte black, glossy white, matte purple and glossy blue – but only the black model will be available at launch in the US on January 6; the white and purple will be available later this month, and the blue model will be available soon after.
All four models have a US list price of $179.99 (approx. £134 / AU$269). International pricing and availability will be announced later.
