Oscars -Ceremony in 2025 ended with a bigger victory for Anora.
The film took Oscar home for the best photo from 97. Academy Awards on March 2nd.
The prestigious event that hosted Conan O’Brien, then Sean Baker’s Anora beat nine other challengers in the category, including Dune: part two, The brutalist, and Evil.
Anora Following a sex worker in New York City on an unexpected journey. The film dominated the night with five awards.
Leading actress Mikey Madison won best actress, while Baker secured victories for best director and best original screenplay.
Producer Alex Coco took the stage and expressed his gratitude for the victory.
He said, “Thanks guys so much. Thanks to the Academy. We made this movie for $ 6 million and shoot at the New York City location with about 40 crew members. They are all left in New York. This is for you. Thank you very much.”
“We made it to be independent. If you are trying to make independent movies, you need to keep doing so. We need more. This is proof,” added Coco.
Meanwhile, co -producer Samantha Quan also continued to add, “This is really an incredible, impossible journey, since I for the past 10 months and honestly, I want to thank my mom, my dad and my sister, Jojo.”
“To our little but mighty crew and our ridiculously talented role crew led by the amazing Mikey Madison. We made this with very little money, but all our hearts. To all the dreamers and the young filmmakers out there, tell the stories you want to tell. Tell the stories that move you. I promise you that you will never regret it,” Quan said.
However, director Baker ended, “One last thing: I would like to thank the academy for recognizing a truly independent film.”
“This movie was made on the blood, sweat and tears from incredible indie artists. Long live -independent film,” Sean Baker added.
