HARIPUR:
After Peshawar, a case of police excesses has emerged from Haripur, where a senior police officer allegedly beat up a petrol station clerk for refusing to serve his son.
A report submitted to the District Police Officer (DPO0 office stated that the son of Additional SHO SI Muhammad Nawaz had gone to a petrol station in Batrassi area of Haripur to get fuel for his motorcycle. Because he was not wearing a face mask or helmet, the officer on duty refused to provide him service as per a campaign run by the district police.
On this further SHO Nawaz and his driver arrived at the petrol station where they beat up the workers. Nawaz’s driver also allegedly grabbed cash from the cashier’s pocket and then fled.
The owner of the filling station and the workers subsequently approached the DPO and urged him to intervene. The DPO took cognizance of the incident and suspended Nawaz and initiated an inquiry.
The report further revealed that the Additional SHO had earlier been found guilty of leading a man in a fake case and allegedly accepted bribe to set aside the case.
