ANP office in Orangi Town collapses after strong explosion

The local office of Awami National Party (ANP) near Badr Chowk in Karachi’s Orangi Town collapsed Wednesday after an explosion and wounded at least seven people, police said.

According to the West SSP Tariq Mastoi, the fallen building had been transformed into a local office for ANP and was not used for housing purposes. The wounded were identified as ANP employees who were in the office at the time of the incident.

Rescue teams arrived quickly reached the place. They picked up seven wounded people from the rubble and moved them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to Chhipa spokesman Shahid Chaudhry, one of the wounded, 34-year-old Latif, sustained combustion damage while others were caused by the waste.

The original findings suggest that the explosion was triggered when a ceiling fentor switch was turned on, igniting an explosion from a suspected gas leak. “Although the exact cause is determined after further examination, ” said SSP Mastoi.

CCTV recordings showed a flash of fire followed by an explosion that tears through the structure and threw garbage on the street.

This incident comes a month after a five -story building in Lyari collapsed with killing 27 people, causing the Sindh government to create a new selection, led by the Karachi Commissioner, to investigate the state of other fallen buildings all over the city.

Just last month, authorities had marked over 700 buildings over Karachi as unsafe, with at least 59 considered very dangerous.
