The Senate discussed rising tensions with India following the Pahagam attack in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) Tuesday with Vice Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, who repeats Islamabad’s obligation to peace, while any Indian aggression would be fulfilled with a strong reaction.

The session saw legislators united in their attitude towards national security. Dar by tackling the house, Dar expressed gratitude to all senators to demonstrate unity at a crucial time and noted that both civil and military leadership had again presented a unified front through the National Security Committee.

Dar, who represented the Federation, said the Senate had sent a powerful message of national cohesion, especially since all political parties had unanimously adopted a decision on the case.

He stated the Senate that Pakistan had initiated diplomatic involvement with several countries, including Saudi -Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, China, Britain, Kuwait, Bahrain and Hungary, to highlight India’s historical actions and current intentions.

On India’s threats with regard to the Indus Waters Treaty, DAR expressed concern that the Pahagam incident could be a pretext for India to unilaterally suspended or withdraw from the treaty. “Pakistan was not involved in the Pahagam incident. China and Turkiye have already taken clear positions in the case,” he added.

He further stated that China’s Foreign Minister had assured Pakistan for continued support, while Turkiye’s Foreign Minister offered help and was informed of Pakistan’s firm attitude that any Indian misadventure would be met with a “stone for a brick” response.

DAR criticized India for not providing evidence connecting Pakistan to the Pahaldam -attack and confirming that Pakistan fulfilled his diplomatic responsibility.

DPM said Pakistan had responded to the very first day and said it would act proportionately with any provocation. He added that reports indicated that India may be considering escalating tension. “We will not initiate any action, but if India commits aggression, we will respond with full force,” he warned.

With reference to the recent development, Dar said India had written a letter suggesting that the circumstances had changed and declared that it was the intention of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.

“This is a serious topic, after staging Pulwama drama, Moved India to change the status of Kashmir. The National Security Committee has clearly stated that blocking Pakistan’s water would be considered an act of war,” he said.

DAR also mentioned that the United States had released a joint statement that condemned the incident, but Pakistan had formally raised two objections: the condemnation of the United Resistance Forum and the omission of the term “Jammu and Kashmir” in connection with Pahaldam.

He concluded by confirming that Pakistan had no connection to the Pahagam incident and that its attitude had been recognized at international level.
