Islamabad:
Opposition leaders urged all political parties to meet to establish constitutional norms for relations between parties and call for a new democratic framework, systemic reforms and a cessation of political victim and institutional overreaction.
An All Parties Conference (APC), organized by Tehreek Tahafuz Ayin-E-Pakistan (TTAP), hosted the former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar’s residence in Islamabad at Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s invitation. Khokhar, who read the joint statement, condemned “escalating authoritarian practice” and demanded immediate release by Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi with accelerated hearings in Islamabad High Court and Supreme Court.
He described the penalty of dozens of PTI activists and opposition laws one day earlier as a “black day” in democratic history and claimed “the hybrid regime wants complete elimination of resistance in the country.”
Delegates also called for the establishment of a new “Charter of Democracy” confirming supremacy in the 1973 Constitution, the rule of law, legal independence and the establishment of an impartial and autonomous election commission.
A statement warned: “As a result of successive assaults from the hybrid regime, the constitution of Pakistan – including the fundamental rights of Articles 8 to 18 – and the parliamentary democratic system has been made meaningless.”

The conference required further abolition of SIFC and called it constitutional and contrary to the 18th amendment. “SIFC is in violation of the spirit of the 18th amendment and the Constitution. We demand its resolution and cancellation of plans to transfer millions of acres – acquired in the name of the company’s agriculture – to the Green Initiative Company.”
APC, which criticized civilian -military interference, accused the federal and defense institutions of undermining civilian agencies and eroding public confidence in law enforcement and the legal system. It required immediate reforms and restoration of trust in judiciary.
By tackling the legal independence, it declared the decision: “After the 26th constitutional amendment, legal dependence has been reduced to a slogan and is effectively not -existing in Pakistan. Kangaroo courts now serve establishment interests; regular courts serve selected individuals, while Chief Justice has become a symbolic figure.”
To reverse this, the conference called for full termination of the amendment, completed all interference and the establishment of an independent system for legal appointments. “To restore the sanctity of the judiciary … the full abolition of the 26th constitutional amendment is necessary,” it said.
