Islamabad High Court has scheduled the consultation of Khawar Maleka’s appeal of the acquittal of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and former first lady Bushra Bibi in the IDDAT marriage case for tomorrow.
Judge Azam Khan, who was recently appointed Islamabad High Court, will lead the hearing. Khawar Maneka had challenged the decision issued by an additional session judge on July 13, 2024, who acquitted the couple in the case. The appeal requires the abolition of the notification’s judgment.
On July 13, 2024, the judge, by extra sessions, had acquitted Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi of charges related to their alleged marriage during the Bushra Bibis IDDAT (a wait prescribed by Islamic law after a woman’s divorce or man’s death).
Formerly, the district and session court in Islamabad rejected the seven-year prison sentence, which was sentenced to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi by senior civilian Judge Qudratullah, giving them an honorable acquittal in the case.
During the hearing, Salman Akram represented Raja Imran Khan, while Usman Riaz Gul appeared on behalf of Bushra Bibi. Both lawyers cross -reported the prosecutor’s four witnesses who included Khawar Maleka, Awn Chaudhry, Nikah Khwan (marriage officer) Mufti Saeed and an employee of the household, Latif.
Khawar Maneka has filed an appeal to contest the Session Court’s decision to free the couple, who will now be treated by Islamabad High Court.
