- Upcoming iPad Pro is Refused to have the slimmest frame to date
- Change could come from adoption of LG-chip-on movie OLED PANEL
- The timeline of the redesign remains unclear
Apple’s iPad Pro could be set to an even smoothing design. A new rumor suggests that the next generation of the OLED iPad Pro will have the slimmest frames from any Apple tablet to date-what it brings it closer than ever to a real edge-to-edge display experience.
According to a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, upcoming models of the iPad Pro will have a hit similar in width to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra. The information was shared by instant digital, an established leak with more than 1.4 million followers.
The post also suggests that Apple has figured out how to reduce the breadth of the ipad display boundaries without introducing a notch, such as the one found on the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra. This tablet already has a screen-to-body ratio of more than 90%. Without a notch, the redesigned iPad Pro line would be fixed on territory on the entire screen.
Exciting as this latest iPad screen rumors are, it also raises many questions – leaving many of them unanswered.
A boundless future?
We’ve heard rumors of Ultra-slim iPad Pro-Bezels before, some of which came from the same source. While Instant Digital has exactly leaked some Apple specifications ahead of time, the account has also had its share of misses. It gives reason to take the suggestions with a pinch of skepticism.
Still, it seems to develop a tablet with Ultra-Sim-Bezels determined as something in Apple Wheelhouse. And if there is a device that Apple loves to show its design chops with, it’s the iPad Pro. From mini-led panels to Apple Pencil Hover Support, the Pro-line has long been a playground for premium features.
The move would require a reconfiguration of the internal hardware, especially in relation to the display. Recent reports suggest that part of the answer could come from chip-on-movie technology, which LG will reportedly use to make integrated OLED panels for future iPad Pro models.
With slim bezels and no notch, Apple still needs a place to hide the front-facing camera and threatened sensor system required for facial ID. When it removed the chopped from the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple introduced the dynamic island. One option may be to bring this feature over to the iPad Pro setup.
An alternative solution would be sensors under display. We’ve seen these on other devices. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, including the latest Z Fold 6, has long been equipped with under-display cameras. We have also written about a recent Apple patent for an Under-Display Face ID system. This suggests that Apple is working in a way to eradicate notches from its iPhone series – and the technology could certainly be expanded to its tablets.
Perhaps the most pressing question is when all this actually comes to. Weibo Post makes it clear that the arrival point of the redesign is ‘not necessarily the next generation’.
The current iPad Pro (2024) was launched in May 2024. The next generation iPad Pro is expected to land late in 2025 with an M5 processor. As much as we would like to see an iPad on all screens this year, it seems to be more realistic to uncover our efforts and wait for slimmer to hit the following generation-of which is probably due to the first half of 2027.
