- Apple will reportedly intensify RAM from 8 GB to 12 GB for the iPhone 17 -Setup
- It was previously reported that only Pro and Pro Max would get the upgrade
- More RAM would smooth the competition with them like Samsung and Google
Just as Apple likes to upgrade its homemade chipset every year to iPhone, it’s also steadily to increase RAM. And after a new report, it seems that the Cupertino-based tech giant will continue on that path and undoubtedly copy what Samsung and Google are already offering.
According to Ming-Chi KUO, the iPhone 17 Series will kick computed computing power in higher gear thanks to 12GB of RAM. It would be a solid increase compared to 8 GB of RAM found in iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.
Why the increase? It’s probably not only to follow, no matter what changes are ahead of us with iOS 19-this upgrade is expected to be revealed in a few weeks on the WWDC 2025-but also to run the aspects of Apple Intelligence.
It’s not an easy feat, and with the AI-Infunded Siri still on the horizon with a launch at some point in the coming year, iPhone is likely to need a larger amount of RAM to deal with running AI models directly on the device. Apple Intelligence is currently treating some on the device – be it an iPhone, iPad or Mac – as well as safe to send it out in the private cloud calculation method.
In addition to AI implications and the need for more RAM, this should provide even more support for future A-series chips developing. And it should make future iPhones run at even more speed and fluidity.
This change in the amount of RAM also represents Apple playing with Samsung and Google. The Galaxy S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra contain all 12GB of RAM standard and are already capable of more advanced artificial intelligence features. Standard Google Pixel 9 comes with 12 GB RAM out of the box, while the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL has 16 GB of RAM.
Ming-Chi Kuo’s report information about the expected iPhone 17 models, Pro, Pro Max and Ultra-Thin Air will all have 12 GB of RAM now. Previously reported reports that only Pro Max – probably the most powerful of the flock – would get the upgrade. The report also mentions that the hope is also to give iPhone-IPhone-entry-Level 17 12 GB of RAM, but the delivery of deficiency is a problem.
Either way, it’s clear that Apple is noticing the competition from companies like Samsung and Google, and that it probably takes this to its roadmap for Apple Intelligence features. As the list of features, both those already released and future, continues to grow, the iPhone must be able to support them all.
Given Apple’s focus on privacy throughout its unity and function kit, the goal is likely to be much on the device, so an investment in more RAM makes a lot of sense.
And even if you don’t use AI features on iPhone, it is likely to be good news if you choose the latest model.
