- iOS 18.5 makes it easier to simplify your Apple Mail experience on iPhone
- Standard Mail -app got new categorization features in iOS 18.2
- The latest beta -replacing options to disable some of these features to more accessible locations
Apple has released the first beta of iOS 18.5 for developers, just days after issuing iOS 18.4 for public release, and it has a nice way to turn a controversial change.
Although iOS 18.4 brought several new features to iPhone that prioritized messages and the charming surrounding music feature, iOS 18.5 so far is easier on significant additions to the iPhone experience.
That said, like 9to5Mac notes, Beta seems to make it easier to turn a controversial change of iPhone’s Standard Mail app.
The mail app was a redesign in iOS 18.2 that added categories and Apple Intelligence features to what was previously one of Apple’s simplest mobile apps.
Since the e email was one of the core features of a modern smartphone, some users were not satisfied with such a large shake -a Reddit wire on R/iPhone -sub edit, for example, contains lots of irritated commentators who regret the new categorization features.
iOS 18.5 moves some options around, making it easier to switch back. Previously, a menu that is available in the upper right corner of the app’s website provided users to switch between category viewing and list view, but now options have been added to disable group of sender and contact photos.
This should make it faster and easier for users to return to a simpler mail -app experience while making new features more available when required.
It is worth noting that Apple never made it impossible to disable the mail features added in iOS 18.2 – these were always optional additions. In fact, we have a dedicated piece on how to turn off mail categories on the iPhone, or adjust them to your needs if you are not a fan of Apple’s new standard setup.
As for other aspects of iOS 18.5 Beta 1, the official release notes are pretty easy on information. There are a few bug fixes for the Vision Pro and Writing Tools Apple Intelligence feature as well as Storekit Developer Framework.
