- Don’t expect large Apple Intelligence -Upgrades on WWDC 2025
- Apple’s upcoming main note is expected to be an ‘letdown’ from an AI perspective
- Exciting AI projects are in the works, according to a top insider, but you may have to wait until 2026
WWDC 2025 is just around the corner, but those who look forward to larger AI messages from Apple may need to wait a little longer.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman ($/£), a generally reliable source of Apple info, Apple’s AI comeback “probably won’t happen on this year’s WWDC.” In fact, “people within the business believe that the conference can be an easy -to -do from an AI point of view.”
It is disappointing for those who expected Apple to jump back from its Apple Intelligence -Foundation on this year’s WWDC headtaler. However, it is not all the downfall and gloom, as Gurman says we will see an AI-driven battery control mode along with Apple that opens its foundation models to third-party developers, which should allow for better AI integration across iOS.
Gurman also says we get a “quiet rebrand” of some existing features in safaris and photos, which will now be called “AI driven.”
If you think everything sounds pretty along the way I would be inclined to agree. However, Gurman also reports that Apple is working on some major AI improvements that the company could reveal on WWDC 2026, “When it hopes it can try to convince consumers that it is an AI -Innovator.”
Here are the four major Apple Intelligence projects Apple is working on:
1. Siri, we’ve been waiting for
We have already discussed LLM Siri several times, but although we had hoped to see the Apple Intelligence-driven Siri, which we were promised on WWDC 2024 this year, it seems that this highly expected Siri upgrade will not be included in June’s main note.
LLM SIRI would give iPhone users a voice assistant on par with the best, such as Gemini Live and Chatgpt’s advanced voice mode. Unfortunately, it seems that we will have to wait longer than expected, as it is unlikely to be included in iOS 19 (which must be renamed to be renamed iOS 26).
2. AI-driven shortcut app
Gurman also claims that Apple is working on an “renewed version of its shortcut -app” which will add Apple Intelligence to the mix to allow users to create custom actions driven by AI rather than created manually, as in today’s version of the app.
He claims that this project was originally planned for launch this year, but now due to delays it could be pushed until 2026.
3. An AI -Doctor
Code-named Mulberry, this AI medical idea is essentially the development of Apple’s health app.
Gurman says it is “scheduled to be released in 2026 as part of a spring update for iOS 26. Expect a kind of Chatbot-Esque Health app that would work in the same way as those found in Fitness Trackers like Whoop or Oura Ring.
This idea has been rumored for a while now and makes sense considering Apple’s focus on health and fitness with the industry -leading laptop, Apple Watch.
4. Knowledge, a Chatgpt -Competition
Last but not least, Apple is said to work on a chatgpt competitor who “can extract data from the open web that some employees have called ‘knowledge.'”
Gurman reports that this project is led by Robby Walker, who worked at Siri until a few weeks ago when a new project manager, Vision Pro Mike Rockwell, was held accountable.
Apple would love to be able to compete with like Openai and Google in the AI room, though Gurman says, “Employees who are familiar with the work say it has already been plagued by some of the same problems that delayed the Siri revision.”
