Karachi: A low pressure system in the Arabian Sea has intensified into a depression currently located approx. 1,058 kilometers southeast of Karachi, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Saturday.
According to Met Office, the depression is expected to move to the east. However, officials have confirmed that there is currently no threat to any coastal area in Pakistan.
The system is expected to start weakening after landing on the Indian coast.
This development is especially welcome, as previous fears of a heat wave that seizes from Sindh, including Karachi, under the influence of this system has now subsided.
With the expected weakening of the depression, the likelihood of a heat wave has diminished.
In addition, the meteorological department expects sea breeze to continue to recover as the system moves further afield. This will bring much needed relief to coastal areas.
Meanwhile, PMD also said that most parts of Sindh are expected to experience warm and dry weather in the coming days.
While isolated rain with gusty wind and thunderstorms are expected in Jamshoro district, Karachi is set to meet a spell with increasing heat and humidity.
Residents of Karachi can expect hot and humid conditions today and tomorrow, when temperatures are likely to hovers between 35 degrees Celsius and 37 ° C.
“The Mercury is expected to climb further on Sunday and potentially reach 39 ° C,” said officials from the MET Office.
Monday is expected to be an extremely hot and humid day for the metropolis, with the meteorological department warning that temperatures could rise to 40°C.
Residents are advised to take the necessary precautions to remain hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during this period.
