Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir holds conversations with Azerbaijanic counterpart to defense, security

Pakistan’s chief of staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met Azerbaijan Defense Minister, Colonel Hasanov Zakir Asgar Ogglu, in Lachin on Wednesday to discuss regional security and defense cooperation.

During the meeting, the two military leaders exchanged views on questions of mutual interest focusing on strengthening bilateral military cooperation and tackling common regional challenges.

The Army Chief emphasized Pakistan’s obligation to expand defense ties with Azerbaijan and praised the close and growing relationship between the two countries.

Azerbaijan Defense Ministry of Defense congratulated the army chief with his promotion to rank as a field marshal and expressed the satisfaction of receiving the Pakistani delegation.

The Colonel General confirmed Azerbaijan’s obligation to strengthen defense relationships with Pakistan and called it a priority area under the management of President Ilham Aliyev, the top commander of Azerbaijan’s armed forces.

The army chief thanked his hosts for their warm reception and emphasized the importance of mutual visits in promoting strategic and operational cooperation between the two countries.

Yesterday, the army chief visited an official visit to Tehran, where he met senior Iranian military officials to discuss bilateral defense cooperation and regional stability.

Under his engagements in the headquarters, Army Chief held detailed conversations with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, head of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.

The two sides underwent the developing security landscape in the region and agreed to improve military coordination, especially along the shared border.

The discussions also focused on transforming the Pakistan-Iran border into a wire for trade and economic growth. Both nations confirmed their obligation to promote peace, stability and connection in the wider area.

Azerbaijan supports Pakistan

Earlier this month, in the midst of rising tensions between Pakistan and India, Azerbaijan expressed support to Pakistan and Solidarity with his government and people.

The Azerbaijanian Government condemned acts of the Indian military in a formal letter to Pakistan’s prime minister.

The message provided by Azerbaijan’s ambassador Khazar Farhadov included compassion for those affected by the conflict and desires for the wounded recovery. Azerbaijan also called on both sides to seek a peaceful decision on diplomatic means.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Azerbaijan on Tuesday as part of a regional tour of four national tournaments aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.

The visit follows earlier stops in Turkiye and Iran, where the prime minister kept discussions at a high level of bilateral cooperation, regional connection and mutual development goals.

The tour ends in Tadsjikistan, where the Prime Minister is intended to attend the international conference on glaciers on May 29 – 30.
