Madrid: Arsenal spelled Champions League holders Real Madrid’s superstars and rich history of unlikely comebacks to snap a 2-1 win on Wednesday and reach the semi-finals with an excellent 5-1 overall triumph.

Gunners’ 3-0 quarter-final first bentriumf last week gave them an important pillow in the Spanish capital when they made Final Four for the first time since 2009, when they will face Paris Saint-Germain.

Bukayo Saka, who missed a first half punishment, sent Arsenal ahead, and although Vinicius Junior leveled, the 15-time winners were never close to putting together the deficit.

Gabriel Martinelli rubbed salt in their wounds with a winner of stopping time for Arsenal who has never lifted the Champions League trophy.

“We knew we were going to suffer, but we knew we wanted to win,” said Declan Rice, who the network two fantastic free kicks in the first leg, told TNT SPORTS.

“It’s such a special evening for this club, it’s a historic evening for this club … We’ll win this competition.”

Los Blancos, far more crispy than when they won a Champions League and La Liga double last season, were convinced they could turn the game, but created too little against Arsenal’s tight defense.

The Premier League side held their nerve to reach the semi-finals for the third time in their history.

“It’s a difficult moment … It was a difficult game, we didn’t have all the chances we would have wanted,” Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez told Movistar.

“We needed a little more with the ball, maybe a little more patience to be able to break through a very well -organized defense – they did their job.”

Kylian Mbappe threw home in the opening phase, but was obviously offside, with the forward gesticulation to the amount to turn up the volume to create the legendary aura that helps Madrid to draw almost impossible feats at Santiago Bernabeu.

David Alaba was booked to hack down Saka as Madrid tried to add the gravel they were badly missing in their first pendant in London, and the Arsenal wing also had a drive field well from Thibaut Courtois.

Arsenal was awarded a penalty that was apparently out of the blue, when Booth instructed French judge Francois Letexier about undergoing an incident from an earlier corner.

Raul Asenscio withdrew the Arsenal tip back Mikel Merino in the area, and Letexier pointed on the spot, the fight of the home crowd.

Saka punishment saved

Saka stepped up to take it, but his poorly performed Panenka, who was skewed left, was saved by Courtois.

It spurred Real Madrid, and soon they had their own punishment when Mbappe hit the grass after Rice threw himself with him.

After a prolonged VAR review, however, Letexier was called to see another look, and he then decided that Arsenal’s two-goal first leg hero Rice had not buried the French superstar.

The breaks in the game along with Arsenal’s dallying on every occasion disturbed Madrid’s momentum, and they struggled to threaten Gunners stopper David Raya.

For all Madrid’s bluster, the goalkeeper did not have to save in the first half.

Martin Odegaard, who faces his former employers, whom he took over as a ‘Wonderkid’ a decade ago, helped forge Arsenal’s opening goal after 65 minutes.

The Norwegian attached to Merino sliding in Saka from behind, and the Englishman made changes to his penalty kick with an ice -school dined finish.

Four goals in front of a draw, Arsenal felt that their work had been done, where Defender William Saliba did not concentrate on the edge of his box in possession.

Vinicius stole the ball away from him and beat Raya outside the position to level two minutes after Sakas opens.

Madrid’s increasingly slim hope was stabbed when Mbappe leaned off with an ankle problem with 15 minutes left, and Martinelli mourned with a cool finish after Merino set him up.
