Associate Professor arrested over alleged harassment

Bahawalpur:

A visitor teacher at Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) has been arrested on charges of attempted sexual harassment and bribery after a complaint filed by a female student in the IT department.

According to FIR, registered at Baghdadul Jadeed Police Station, the accused, Ahmed Mahmood, allegedly lured the student to her home with the pretense of helping to improve her English paper marks – from 40 to 85.

When he was there, he allegedly demanded bribery on RS50,000 and tried to sexually harass her.

The student lifted an alarm, which caused the lecturer to escape through the back door to his residence.

The complaint was first reported to the chairman of the IUB’s Anti-Harvasment Committee, who immediately referred the case to the principal, Professor Kamran.

In response, the principal of the lecturer served and introduced a ban on his entry into the university campus.

“The university will expand full cooperation to the police in their investigation,” he said.

Police have taken the defendants into custody and initiated a formal investigation after registration of the case.
